Tiger Woods is the star of golf today, and his father played the lead role in guiding him. Now, he is guiding his son, Charlie Woods, to be a better golfer. A new name has been added to the family guidance list: the LPGA Tour star Michelle Wie West. She recently appeared on the “Off The Beat with Brian Baumgartner” podcast. There she discussed her career, which began at the age of ten. She also discussed the unexpected impediment that made her choose golf over tennis. But the highlight of the conversation was her choice of caddie from her parents.

Who was the better caddie for Michelle Wie West?

Brian and the pro golfer discussed the tough shots on the California-based golf course. Then he asked West about her caddie preference on difficult golf courses. He asked, “Who was Caddying for you? Mom or Dad?” Without delay, the youngest winner of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links chose her father over her mother. She further explained her relationship with her father.

West said, “I fought a lot with my dad. But he was the more logical one on the golf course. He had better course management.” She explained her mother’s approach to the sport and said, “My mom was like, Yeah, go for it. Yeah. Go for it. Yeah. Oh, 30 over the water. You can do it.” But her father had a different approach. “And my dad would be like, No, you gotta lay up. Let’s be safe. And I would always argue with him,” said the LPGA Tour pro.

West explained the importance of her father’s role in her golf game: “I would think more like my mom, but it was great. I needed someone like my dad.” Thankfully, she had her father by her side to guide her while she walked on the right path. She has won five times on the female golf Tour and one major championship. Preferring her father as a caddie worked.

The memorable moments of the pro with her father

There were many funny and memorable memories of West with her father when he was her caddie. She would fight with him all the time. When she was ten years old, she was at the Public Links. She said, “I remember my first time playing in Georgia, and I was in North Carolina. And there’s like flower beds and pine needles stuff that I’ve never really seen before playing golf.” West added, “And my ball goes into like this flower bed. I’m like, why don’t you see that, not blaming myself for hitting the bad cop? It was my dad’s fault for not seeing the flowerbed.”
