It is said that behind every successful man, there is a woman. And this stands true in the case of Illayathalapathy Vijay's life. Sangeetha Vijay was recently awarded as 'Unheralded Commander' among the Wonder Women (WoW) awardees held by Galatta Media.
The Wonder Women (WoW) awards was aimed to felicitate five generations of women achievers in the field of cinema. Apart from Sangeetha Vijay, the event was graced by leding stars including Latha, Simran, Nadhiya, Ambika, Poornima Bhagyaraj, Suganya, Meena, Shruti Haasan, Keerthy Suresh, Nivetha Pethuraj, Sayyeshaa, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Dayana Erappa, Archana Kalpathi etc.
While pics from the event are doing the rounds on social media, Sangeetha grabbed all the attention. Interestingly, it was for the very first time Sangeetha Vijay was seen attending an event without Thalapathy Vijay. Just like Vijay, Sangeetha never demands attention and quietly acknowledges her husband's success by being by his side. Today, let's take a look at their journey together:
The fan moment
Though Vijay had done quite a few movies it was with his 1996 movie Poove Unakkaga that gave him a decent break. His performance began to be noticed by movie buffs and he was in the early stage of being a bankable star. He had started signing back to back movies and was shooting for the movies. During one such shoot schedule at Film City in Chennai, he was introduced to a pretty lady fan. And it was Sangeetha Sornalingam, whom Vijay warmly greeted and talked for a while.
Sangeetha Sornalingam, who was settled in UK had come to Chennai and was wanting to meet him. She was the daughter of a Tamil industrialist from Sri Lanka and was a big time fan of Vijay. On knowing her, Vijay was impressed by her effort in coming and meeting him. In turn, he her if she would be interested in visiting his house for a chat with his parents as well. A happy Sangeetha agreed, and their next meeting was with Vijay’s parents at their house.
The family meet
Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, better known by his screen name Vijay was the son of Tamil filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar and playback singer Shoba Chandrasekhar. Though the first meeting at Vijay's house ended up casually, Vijay's parents and the star himself developed a liking for her.
The next time when Vijay learnt that Sangeetha was in Chennai, he invited her to his house again. And during the time, Vijay’s parents felt that this was the girl could be their daughter-in-law, they asked Sangeetha directly. When Vijay’s father asked if she would be interested in marrying his son, Sangeetha coudn't refuse and gladly accepted. Vijay’s parents then visited London to meet Sangeetha’s parents, who happily agreed to accept Vijay as their son-in-law too.
The big fat wedding
On August 25,1999, Vijay tied a knot with Sangeetha. Though Vijay was a Christian, the families decided that the wedding will be in traditional Hindu style. Vijay, by the time has made a mark in the industry and his wedding with his ardent fan had hit the headlines back then.
In August 2000, the couple were blessed with a son Jason Sanjay and later in September 2005, they welcomed daughter Divya Saasha.
Now, it has been 20 years since their marriage never did media got to report anything negative with regard to Vijay and Sangeetha's marriage life.
