Mary Lou Retton is not answering questions

June 2024 · 16 minute read

That forced smile doesn't match the expression in her eyes.

Bootstrapping hos always have their hands out for a "donation".

by Anonymousreply 1January 11, 2024 1:40 AM

I'm still wondering how did she not have medical insurance!?

by Anonymousreply 2January 11, 2024 1:40 AM

She still does endorsements, including old people's life insurance, so I assume she has some income.

by Anonymousreply 3January 11, 2024 1:44 AM

She is a disgusting racist homophobic MAGAT who probably speaks out against the evils of socialism, but sure had her hands out freeloading for a gofundme. Worthless fat midget cunt.

by Anonymousreply 4January 11, 2024 1:44 AM

Hoda Kotb did a sit-down interview with her earlier this week. She asked the question about medical insurance and Retton gave some non-sensical answer. Hoda just went along with it - didn't go further. IIRC, she didn't ask about the GofundMe page either. It was a very bad interview.

by Anonymousreply 5January 11, 2024 1:45 AM

I always knew she had some problematic political views, but I thought maybe she was old school Republican. The more I learn about her, she seems like a very nasty person and vile magat. Her behavior during the Nassar shit was bad enough.

by Anonymousreply 6January 11, 2024 1:46 AM

R4, I think in MLR's case, she is more dumb than malevolent. I think her divorce made her sorta 'lose it.'

by Anonymousreply 7January 11, 2024 1:53 AM

She can say it wasn’t COVD all day long. She knows the truth can be hidden due to confidentiality laws.

by Anonymousreply 8January 11, 2024 1:56 AM

She was a MAGAt cunt long before her divorce. The Today interview was a disaster but it was obvious damage control. People are really questioning her answers as well as the things her daughters said when they tried to get people to donate to her GoFundMe.

by Anonymousreply 9January 11, 2024 1:57 AM

File this one under the "evil looking celebs" thread.

Malevolent.

Even the vein bulging in her forehead looks diabolical!

by Anonymousreply 10January 11, 2024 2:11 AM

It was a terrible interview. Hoda was an embarrassment with her softball questions and total lack of follow-up.

MLR is bullshitting about not being able to afford it. The most expensive full-price plan for someone her age in Texas, USA Today pointed out, was only around $500. If she had little or no income, she could have gotten an ACA plan for super-cheap or Medicaid.

But why bother being personally responsible with your health when you can leech off the American public to get $500k. Talk about a welfare queen. I thought Republicans hated people expecting handouts?

She's probably bullshitting about it not being COVID too.

by Anonymousreply 11January 11, 2024 2:12 AM

The forehead veins make her look like an alien from Star Trek:TNG.

by Anonymousreply 12January 11, 2024 2:39 AM

That interview did not make her look good. She gave rambling non answers. Both her and her daughter seemed to be hiding something. Typical Republicans.

I still think she’d have won in ‘84 WITH the Russians. Yes, she would have.

by Anonymousreply 13January 11, 2024 2:42 AM

She would have won and that’s FINAL.

She’s an awful person. Skeezy. The divorce really sent her over the edge.

by Anonymousreply 15January 11, 2024 2:45 AM

R15, that gnarly balance beam routine of hers though!

by Anonymousreply 16January 11, 2024 2:47 AM

Interesting how very boyish she looked in her prime.

by Anonymousreply 17January 11, 2024 2:52 AM

Those Breibart-style unnaturally white vinyl fencing-colored fake teeth? —Yep, she’s surely a giant MAGnum.

by Anonymousreply 18January 11, 2024 2:52 AM

R17, Bart Connor caught her pissing at the urinal trough once!

by Anonymousreply 19January 11, 2024 2:54 AM

She and ex-husband were kind of an odd couple.

R21, he couldn't keep up with MLR's insatiable libido

by Anonymousreply 23January 11, 2024 5:25 AM

A lot of Olympic athletes are maga. Probably because of their competitive nature. I went from working at a uni to working with athletes, Im definitely wanting to go back to research. The culture is annoying

by Anonymousreply 24January 11, 2024 5:29 AM

That's actually like a "game face" in sports. Or maybe a murderer's face in the act of killing

by Anonymousreply 25January 11, 2024 6:31 AM

R24, lots of gymnastics parents seem to be conservative and Republican -- it's a very expensive sport. That might be changing though, as the demographics have changed within the last 20 years!

by Anonymousreply 26January 11, 2024 6:34 AM

Her perfectly square head and jawline freak me out.

by Anonymousreply 27January 11, 2024 6:35 AM

R21 A ventriloquist and his dummy?

by Anonymousreply 28January 11, 2024 6:46 AM

She also lobbied against the “Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act” of 2017, but thankfully it passed anyhow. Karma found her! I hope she enjoys having long “not-COVID.”

[quote]The day before Retton first went to the hospital, she was getting her nails done with her eldest daughter, Shayla Schrepfer, she told TODAY's Hoda Kotb in an exclusive interview that aired Jan. 8. They were preparing for a "girls' trip" and were set to go to Dallas...During the manicure, Schrepfer recalls her mom saying, "I just can't keep my eyes open. I am so tired." Later that evening, another one of Retton's daughters thought something was off when she started "to say things that don't make a whole lot of sense...But Schrepfer didn't think anything of it, and they shrugged it off as dehydration.

[quote]The former Olympic gymnast was found by a neighbor lying on her bedroom floor the day after the manicure, struggling to breathe. "I didn’t know what was wrong with me," Retton said, adding that she was trying to take in a "big, deep breath," but couldn't — something she said she still can't do as she remains on an oxygen apparatus in recovery from her monthlong stay in the intensive care unit.

[quote]But before Retton was admitted to the ICU, she was hospitalized for a "couple of days" and then sent home. "I wasn't being treated. I kept saying, 'I can't breathe,'" Retton said. Her condition quickly deteriorated, and she was rushed to the hospital and admitted to the ICU.

[quote]Retton said doctors still don't know what caused the pneumonia. She said she tested negative for COVID-19, the flu and RSV. Doctors also determined it wasn't bacterial or fungal.

[quote]When she gets stronger, she said doctors want to do a biopsy on her lungs to try to figure out what happened. But because the cause of the illness is a mystery, the timeline on Retton's recovery is unclear, Schrepfer said. "You don’t get to see the light at the end of the tunnel," she said. "So it’s a day by day recovery period."

Seems the doctors ruled out viruses and bacterial infections. Sounds scary, and mysterious. I think I wondered this on another thread a while back, but did Madonna or Jamie Foxx ever say why they were hospitalized last summer?

by Anonymousreply 31January 11, 2024 7:21 AM

[quote] That said 500-700 dollars a month for insurance is insane.

I pay $550 a month plus a $30 copay.

[quote]A lot of Olympic athletes are maga. Probably because of their competitive nature.

I think the majority of athletes are just plain dumb and self-centered since they spend most of their lives training and have little contact with the real world. It’s also not cheap to do high level sports and you don’t get sponsorships & such until you’ve already shown results…so most US athletes come from privilege to begin with.

Retton has always been a Republicunt.

by Anonymousreply 34January 11, 2024 10:19 AM

I hated this perky fucking bitch in 1984. And she lives up to dim expectations yet again.

by Anonymousreply 35January 11, 2024 10:26 AM

Many high competitive sports have been taken over by religious nutjobs. Haven’t you ever noticed most male coaches are religious freaks. Most athletes are pretty much forced to join “Youth for Christ” type organizations in high school and college. It’s a little thought of not so secret.

by Anonymousreply 36January 11, 2024 11:51 AM

Their coaches also seem to be outed as pedophiles on the daily, R36.

If Retton hasn't had a lung biopsy yet, it could be primary or metastisized cancer. I wonder if they've done CAT or PET scans on her?

If her darling Trump gets reelected, people with pre existing conditions are fucked. She will have to beg the 5% of America who don't have those and who have money to give her.

by Anonymousreply 37January 11, 2024 12:03 PM

I still think she's a pill head and aspirated on her own vomit or even saliva.

by Anonymousreply 38January 11, 2024 12:17 PM

R38 May have a winner here! Definitely think she's an addict.

Also, she had Covid, it developed into pneumonia, by the time she was hospitalized she was probably testing negative.

by Anonymousreply 39January 11, 2024 1:12 PM

Someone other than Hoda needs to interview her and ask harder questions about the funds raised for her medical bills.

by Anonymousreply 41January 11, 2024 1:23 PM

Those are veneers, right?

by Anonymousreply 42January 11, 2024 2:11 PM

Couldn’t she just be dumb?

by Anonymousreply 44January 11, 2024 2:44 PM

r22 Not really. If you are covered by a work health plan that is about the same amount you are paying when you add in what you pay and what the company pays. For my partner and myself (who I cover) I pay 225 per paycheck or 450 a month but my company also pays close to 500 a month so it is 900 a month total cost for both of us and that is a a not so great PPO plan.

by Anonymousreply 45January 11, 2024 2:45 PM

Also like to add that pre-existing condition thing is a lie. The ACA removed pre-existing conditions as a reason to deny insurance and companies could not charge more for it. She is a MAGAT. her kids are probably MAGATS.

by Anonymousreply 46January 11, 2024 2:47 PM

R38 I didn’t think of that; had two hip replacements and complained about chronic pain — is she an opioid addict?

by Anonymousreply 47January 11, 2024 4:31 PM

When I was self-employed, I paid $1,100+ per month for my health insurance. Now, I pay around $450 per month (employer pays the other half).

by Anonymousreply 48January 11, 2024 4:43 PM

Well if she’s so poor how could she afford manicures and girl’s trips? Every cent should have gone towards paying your own bills, right Magat Mary? These people always live by the rule of no help for anyone else but my begging and taking handouts is fine. And of course she had Covid.

by Anonymousreply 49January 11, 2024 4:47 PM

My Medicare supplement costs $500 a month in addition to the $170/mo I pay for Medicare. Fortunately my former employers pays for 80% of the supplement, so I'm paying less than half of the total, but as posters above note, $500 - $600 a month is the baseline for what health insurance costs and can cost much more.

Something was very, very off about her performance with Hoda on the Today Show. Something was off with Hoda, too.

by Anonymousreply 50January 11, 2024 4:57 PM

Hoda's not known for a heavy-hitting, cross-examining type of interview. She and Jenna Bush come off like idiots.

by Anonymousreply 51January 11, 2024 4:59 PM

Did they check for tetanus? Looks like lock jaw to me.

by Anonymousreply 52January 11, 2024 5:08 PM

Looking back at the whole mess, she does sound like a druggie. Who gets a manicure while ignoring their advanced stage pneumonia? I think the spiel about her initially seeing doctors about her breathing difficulties and being sent home is a complete fabrication, unless she was pill shopping and they said NO.

by Anonymousreply 53January 11, 2024 5:17 PM

Until someone spills or rebuts her version of the story, she got 500k for not getting vaccinated, in my opinion. It’s mind-blowing.

by Anonymousreply 54January 11, 2024 5:36 PM

Still with her ridiculously huge smile. Always looked like she could bite somebody’s head off.

by Anonymousreply 55January 11, 2024 5:38 PM

by Anonymousreply 56January 11, 2024 6:08 PM

Mary Lou looks soooooo off. What the fuck? I totally believe she’s a pill head. 100%. What likely complicated her recovery was she was withdrawing from those opioids and if her doctors didn’t know she was on them, those withdrawals can be deadly.

This whole thing is ODD. She’s so evasive about everything even little details. Sordid.

What kind of a requirements are there for someone to obtain private health insurance? A full physical? Maybe she didn't want to submit to one for fear that her addiction might be revealed. She may have been too out of it to be troubled by pneumonia symptoms.

by Anonymousreply 68January 12, 2024 3:49 AM

R68 Go on the exchange website, pick a plan, sign up. You’re insured.

by Anonymousreply 69January 12, 2024 3:52 AM

Yeah, because of ACA, insurers can no longer discriminate on the basis of preexisting conditions.

She's very unsympathetic. She looks terrible and that smile is scary.

She's supposedly worth $8 million. What was the hospital bill?

by Anonymousreply 74January 12, 2024 11:28 AM

[quote]When I was self-employed, I paid $1,100+ per month for my health insurance. Now, I pay around $450 per month (employer pays the other half).

Same with me - when I was self-employed in my 20s - 40s, I was paying more than $1200 a month for a low-tiered insurance plan I rarely used in those 24 years of self-employment. It didn't cover much, but it was something for emergencies (I had one very small one). I never went for my annual physical because I was healthy, and stayed away from doctors. My dental appointments were all OOP because dental insurance was unaffordable for a self-employed person.

I've been working in higher ed for the past nine years. The pay is not great (everyone who works here says that) but the benefits are great. I pay around $450 / mo and the university pays a little more - for the very top tier plan. The only thing I pay OOP is my co-pay. Everything else - from blood work to hospital stays (and I've been hospitalized twice since 2018) I pay zilch. I'm very fortunate. (I've been offered jobs from other universities which pay better - but their health benefits are not nearly as good as what I've got).

by Anonymousreply 75January 12, 2024 4:56 PM

Where’s the celebrity death watch thread for 2024? I haven’t seen it. I’d add Rotten to the list if she’s not already on there. From opioid use. Or Covid complications.

by Anonymousreply 76January 12, 2024 5:32 PM

[quote] She still does endorsements,

She also still receives royalties from Deep Throat 2: Olympic Contortions.

by Anonymousreply 77January 12, 2024 6:55 PM

Group policies are far superior to individual policies.

And with large employers, they are likely self-insured, so are reimbursing the insurance provider for costs and paying them a fee to administer the plan. Therefore, the insurance company tends to be more liberal in terms of what they allow.

From today’s DM . . .

“Mary Lou Retton and her family received $459,354 in public donations after the retired gymnast was recently hospitalized with a rare form of pneumonia.

Questions were raised as to why the five-time gold medal winner had no health insurance and why her family resorted to begging for cash online to bail her out.

DailyMail.com can reveal that she got $2million from her 2018 divorce and was expected to collect around $2million more in a separate legal case.”

by Anonymousreply 94January 29, 2024 4:47 PM
